As manager of NYC Velo (64 Second Ave, between 3rd and 4th Sts, 212-253-7771), Michael Kowalski’s love life often intersects with his biking. “After one of our free repair classes, I struck up a conversation with a student, Lisa, about food and fine Scotch,” he says. “Both of us were heading to Brooklyn so we decided to ride together.” After the trip over the Williamsburg Bridge, the pair continued the date over drinks at romantically dim Warsaw (261 Driggs Ave at Eckford St, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, 718-387-0505). “We closed the bar down that night,” Kowalski muses, ending the eve with “a couple Scotch kisses.”
The only drawback to the two-wheeled night out was the circuitous route Kowalski took home, due to being unfamiliar with the area and slightly tipsy. “I rode home to Park Slope via Manhattan,” he admits.
