1 A tough high-school senior tries to shake down little, 14-year-old freshman Shane for his lunch money. Is there going to be trouble?
For my lunch money? [Laughs] No way. I don’t give up my money. We’d have to go at it, even if I was a freshman.
2 I don’t give up my loot either. What’s the best way to handle a bully?
The best way would be to do a lot of bluffing, to be honest. If they can sense weakness, then they’ll be all over you. But if you stand up to them, not necessarily physically, but show them you’re not afraid, you’ll probably be okay.
3 I wish I had known that a decade ago. Did you ever get picked on as a kid and, if so, did you send these perpetrators to the nurse’s office with a swollen eye like the one you gave Vargas last year?
I was always the littlest guy. I never got picked on, though. I was so energetic. I was the smallest guy around, but I was also the one everyone wanted on their basketball team. It probably helped that I started boxing when I was eight. The funny thing is, when I was in elementary school, I did give someone an eye like that. I ended up seeing not just the nurse, but the principal, too. [Grins sheepishly] I got suspended.
