1 Did you ever worry that being known as “Black Jesus” would offend real Jesus?
No, no. It’s not like something that I gave myself. It never really fazed me that much. I enjoy being called Earl just as much, if not more so, because that’s exactly who I am. And I’m a God-fearing man, so the powers that be upstairs know the real deal.
2 Do you ever consider coming out of retirement to save this crappy Knicks team?
No, but I considered sending them a videotape. And if they want me to play, that’s where I’ll be—on videotape. [Laughs] They’ve been having some problems, but as I’ve always said, I think they have a tremendous amount of talent on that team, and it’s just unfortunate that they can’t get it together in terms of the chemistry and whatnot. Sometimes it jells and sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t think they’ll go through another year like this one. But then again, I said that last year.
3 Are white guys getting any better at basketball?
Well, the swing is going back. If the guys in America are not, teams are going to Europe to get guys over there. Pretty soon, the Americans are going to claim racism for the Europeans coming over here!
