Celebrate Brooklyn 
The Slope's summer music series also boasts a twofer of very different but equally cool movie events: a dance-and-sing-along shindig for West Side Story (July 21 at 8pm) and a screening of the silent masterpiece Metropolis, with live musical accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra (Aug 4 at 7pm). Prospect Park Bandshell, enter at Prospect Park West and 9th St, Park Slope, Brooklyn (

Central Park Conservancy Film Festival
This fest hits the park for its ninth year, offering a five-night run of classic music flicks like Bird, Dreamgirls and Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones doc, Shine a Light. Stop by with your crew when the gates open to nab a prime picnicking spot and listen to a prefeature DJ set. Sheep Meadow, midpark at 69th St, enter at Fifth Ave and 72nd St (212-310-6600, Aug 23--27 at 8pm, gates open at 6:30pm.

HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival
This alfresco Monday-night staple just announced its lineup, and we're very pleased. Cool Hand LukeAirplane! and The 39 Steps are all slotted, to give you an idea of this year's variety. Bryant Park, between 40th and 42nd Sts and Fifth and Sixth Aves (212-512-5700, June 20--Aug 22; Mon sunset, lawn opens at 5pm.

Films on the Green Festival
French cinephiles flock to these viewings, which set up shop in Washington Square ParkTompkins Square Park and other locales. This year's installment screens essentials like Godard's Contempt and Tati's Mr. Hulot's Holiday, as well as more modern fare like Two Days in Paris and The Swimming Pool. Locations vary ( June 3--Sept 8 at 8:30pm.

Hudson Park RiverFlicks Series
This series schedules two weekly, age-appropriate screenings: RiverFlicks for Grown-Ups goes down on Wednesdays on Pier 63, and the more child-friendly RiverFlicks for Kids takes place on Fridays on Pier46. There should be a bit of crowd overlap with the latter, though—seriously, what levelheaded adult wouldn't want to watch The Princess Bride and Toy Story 3 on the Hudson? Locations vary ( July 6--Aug 19. Wed, Fri 8:30pm.

Intrepid Museum 
The sea, air and space museum projects some (sorry about this) out-of-this-world flicks (like Back to the Future and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial) on select Fridays. Pier 86, W 46th St at Twelfth Ave (212-245-0072, May 27--Aug 19 at 7:30pm. 

Movie Night at Narrows Botanical Gardens 
WALL-E, Young Frankenstein and other flicks amid flower fields at these biweekly Friday screenings. Shore Rd between Bay Ridge Ave and 72nd St, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (718-238-1692, July 8--20 at sundown. 

Movies Under the Stars (Snug Harbor) 
Pinocchio and other crowd pleasers play at this Staten Island series on select Friday nights. Snug Harbor, South Meadow Stage, 1000 Richmond Terr between Harbor Rd and Tyson St, Staten Island (718-448-2500, June 17--July 15 at 7:30pm. 

River to River: Movie Nights on the Elevated Acre
Catch a trio of New York movies (Desperately Seeking Susan, The Godfather Part II and The Brother from Another Planet) as well as a Big Apple--set short before each feature. Entrance is free, but you must nab tix on the program's site or at the entrance at 6pm the day of the screening to reserve a spot. Elevated Acre, 55 Water St between Broad St and Old Slip ( June 20--July 11 at 8pm.

Socrates Sculpture Park Outdoor Cinema
The Museum of the Moving Image and Rooftop Films help curate this eclectic Wednesday-night get-together, which offers a sweet view of Manhattan over the East River. 32-01 Vernon Blvd at Broadway, Long Island City, Queens (718-956-1819, Lineup TBA. July 6--Aug 24. Wed 7pm. 

Summer on the Hudson: Movies Under the Stars
The theme of this year's program is "TERRORIBLE!"—so you can freak (or geek) out to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Mars Attacks!The Birds and other gems on the Hudson. Pier 1, W 70th St at the Hudson River (212-408-0219, July 13--Aug 17. Wed 8:30pm.

Syfy Movies with a View at Brooklyn Bridge Park
This series screens an excellent lineup of New York--set movies on Thursdays, among them
