In this restaging of a 1973 piece originally presented at University of California, San Diego, Rosler will mount a garage sale in MoMA's second-floor atrium space, featuring items brought in by the artist herself and others by members of the public and museum staff. Visitors who buy stuff from the sale can have their pictures taken with their purchases if they choose to. Rosler once wrote that “maybe the Garage Sale is a metaphor for the mind,” meaning, perhaps, that thought is simply another form of junk in need of recycling.
