Time Out says

Learn about the African-American amateur- and pro-league basketball teams that played from the early 1900s until the late ’40s, when racial integration began. Long before New Yorkers were stuck cheering for the Knicks and Nets, hometown squads included the Smart Set Athletic Club, the Renaissance (or Rens for short) and the St. Christopher Club of Harlem.
