Time Out says

Like the name implies, this little hideout of a bar bubbles with life beneath the streets of NYC. You enter via a dodgy-looking doorway on MacDougal Street, descend the stairway and come out in a warren of dark wood and leather, eccentric prints and an impressive drinks menu.

Rarities, indie labels and European suds are the order here, with tipples from Bavaria's Ayinger Brewery, Offshoot on the West Coast and even collaborations, like Grimm Ales and Other Half's 17% PB&J stout.

This is a subterranean haven for serious beer geeks, whom you’ll elbow aside for a seat at the brass bar. Be sure to visit the loo too before you leave (an inevitability, unless you have an iron bladder) as it features a terrifying mock-up of Brussels’ legendary peeing-boy statue, surrounded by broken bottles and graffitied to kingdom come. It's a sight that'll stick with you all night.
