Owners Yujen Pan and Keika Kan have re-created a traditional izakaya (Japanese pub), and it’s a cheery little spot, outfitted with floor-to-ceiling windows, strings of ruby lights and snug seating arrangements. Patrons can sip one of 30 sakes at bargain prices, and four ultrafresh versions of the fermented brew are available on tap. The roasted shishito peppers, sautéed smelts and fried oysters may be acquired tastes, but they’re authentic Japanese pub grub.
