Unless you’re one of those enviably creative people with a brilliant DIY Halloween costume already on lock, you’re probably in need of some ingenious costume ideas. In case you wanted our opinion, we’re pretty certain that you’ll see a lot of folks dressed up as Pope Francis at the spookiest bars in the city come October 31. But don’t just take our word for it—we asked a few of the most notable Halloween Stores in the city for their predictions. Spoiler: No one mentioned #PizzaRat. And judging by this sexy take on everyone's favorite pizza-loving vermin (no, not Chuck E. Cheese), Pizza Rat will rule.

Gothic Renaissance: “You’re going to find a large amount of Mad Max costumes. Guaranteed. And surprisingly, we’re still getting a lot of requests for Maleficent, which is odd since that was the must-have look last year.” —Lauren

Ricky’s: The city’s most popular beauty chain has created a list of costume inspo “to help you look good enough to snap #selfies all night long.” Richard Parrott (president of Ricky’s NYC) is calling for celebrity-inspired looks such as Amy Schumer, Serena Williams, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and her Bad Blood squad. Plus, movie characters like Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, Star Wars icons and TV folks such as Abbi and Ilana from Broad City and Kimmy from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Screaming Mimi’s: “We’re doing an under the sea theme this year, as we get a lot of requests for mermaids. Anything from the 1920s is also very popular—deco and time period looks are our specialty. Galactic and outer space costumes seem to be big right now, too.” —Melissa
