It may soon be a lot easier to catch that local bus.
City Council Members have officially allocated $1.2 million dollars to install new bus stop countdown clocks (similar to the ones currently in place on some subway lines) at stations across New York.
The bus stop countdown clock program has seen great success so far in Staten Island and now countdown clocks will be coming to all five boroughs. The districts of Council Members Andrew Cohen (District 11), Ritchie Torres (District 15), Robert Cornegy (District 36), Rafael Espinal (District 27), David Greenfield (District 44), Helen Rosenthal (District 6), Julissa Ferreras (District 21) and Jimmy Van Bramer (District 26) will be the first to receive the clocks.
“I am delighted that countdown clocks resonated with Upper West Siders during Participatory Budgeting,” says Council Member Helen Rosenthal. “UWSers chose to fund it along with three other terrific projects. For those without smart phones, bus countdown clocks will offer a helpful service.
The clocks are be installed and maintained by the City Department of Transportation (DOT) over the course of the year. The department will work with City Council members to determine the optimal locations. So, if you live in one of the previously mentioned districts and have an idea of a station that could really use a clock, be sure to let your City Council representative know!
