Go speed dating with a paper bag over your head this Wednesday

In this week’s issue, we’ve rounded up new, alternative ways to date in the city. Though many of these involve apps (so far, our single staffers have tried out JSwipeDistinc.ttGlimpseHinge and Wyldfire in our dating app challenge), Paper Bag Speed Dating encourages in-person connections that aren't based on looks. The London import requires participants to keep bags on their heads while they hop from table to table for two-minute flirt sessions (don’t worry—there are eye cutouts). Attendees are encouraged to creatively decorate their sacks (no, not those—grow up, dude) with interesting facts about themselves and other eye-catching conversation starters. We’ve signed a few staffers up to try paper bag dating, but you can get in on the action this Wednesday from 7-10pm—an earlybird discount gets you $10 off the regular $35 admission. Organizers of this week’s event are in need of a few more males to keep ratios even, so if you’re a straight man looking for love, now’s your chance.

And for those who’d still rather date via smartphone, there is an app for you: Loveflutter blurs users’ faces and brings them into focus only after you read their “quirky facts.” If you want to take the superficial out of swiping, give it a shot.
