Kate Spade Saturday is closing for good, but these affordable (and trendy) stores will heal the pain

Bummer, right? Kate Spade first launched its more affordable (but just as playful) line, Kate Spade Saturday, after two years’ worth of teaser pop-ups and buzzy touchscreen installations. Now, we regret to inform you that the company will be shutting down its beloved diffusion label within the next few months (includes the menswear label, Jack Spade). That’s one less wallet-friendly shop in NYC.

The reasoning? The company plans to absorb the “Saturday aesthetic” into Kate Spade New York stores, while—most likely—ditching those loveable prices. Before you start mourning the shop's sudden close, chin up! There is plenty of trendy and inexpensive clothing available in this city. From sample sales to affordable and fashionable shops, here are a few of our favorite penny-pinching boutiques.

Frankie: Think of Frankie as the mature and ultra-chic version of Pixie Market. The shop caters to the career-minded woman, so instead of cocktail dresses or crop tops, you’ll find more sophisticated items like cocoon tops ($66) and a two-in-one shirt/sweater sets ($52).

Teddy: With two uptown Manhattan locations and another pair in Brooklyn (Cobble Hill, Park Slope), Teddy boasts a thoughtful and übercheap selection of affordable frocks, separates and accessories. Shop trendy tie-dye tops ($58) and cozy ski chalet cardigans ($72)—needless to say, we’re glad this shop exists.

Myths of Creation: This new Williamsburg boutique boasts similar styles that you’d find on the racks of Anthropologie—but for a fraction of the price. Score designer items like sweaters and skirts by English Factory ($57 each), high-waist jeans ($60) and handmade jewelry by Pigeon Dynamite (starting at $30) without breaking the bank.

SuperTrash: We’ll admit that this Nolita shop is not exactly fit for bargain hunters, but quality long-sleeve dresses ($99), soft-cotton tees ($59) and natural snake print bags ($115) are worth the extra dough.
