You might expect that a fest honoring Louis Armstrong would take place in his birthplace of New Orleans. Or that it would skew toward jazz, the genre the late trumpet icon played such a major role in shaping. But the second annual Louis Armstrong's Wonderful World festival—taking place Saturday, June 20, at noon, courtesy of Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College—isn't your typical Louis-centric bash. The free outdoor fest, which joins about a zillion others on the 2015 summer-concerts calender in NYC, actually goes at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, situated in the same Queens hood where Armstrong lived for the last two-plus decades of his life.

Headliners include resurgent neosoul queen Ms. Lauryn Hill, local Afrobeat heroes Antibalas, Big Easy brass mainstays Rebirth Brass Band and more. The event also features Queens-centric food, art and family-friendly activities. We're confident that Louis himself would approve. (Though the event is free, you'll need to reserve tickets; the wonderfulness begins here.)
