We know you love outdoor screenings—what's not to love? They're free, they're communal, you can sit outside and have a picnic. We've built this superhandy calendar of all the outdoor screenings happening through September, to help you catch them.

But now that Fleet Week is here, why not combine all the above with the spectacle of an awe-inspiring aircraft carrier? Every summer, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum (Pier 86 at W 46th St and 12th Ave) hosts a free outdoor-screening series, and this year's edition begins this Friday at sundown with—what else?—Top Gun. Lately it's impossible not to view the movie as hilarious (Tom Cruise plays volleyball in his jeans), but don't forget how exhilarating the combat scenes are.

Ten-hut! Here's the drill, privates: Doors open at 7pm. Bring your picnic baskets, blankets and food. Alcohol is not permitted. Beforehand, a special guest speaker will provide "unique insight" into the movie and maybe answer questions. (Why, for example, jeans during a volleyball game?)

We have no problem with the six scheduled films, clearly selected by a Star Trek fan:

Fri May 27 Top Gun
Thu July 7 Star Trek (2009)
Thu July 14 Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Thu July 21 Galaxy Quest
Fri July 2 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Fri August 5 Big Hero 6
