Wondering what's up those 1,200 pound bike sculptures all around the city? The public art installation is called Las Bicicletas, and thanks to Mexican artist and sculptor Gilberto Aceves Navarro, cyclists are finally getting the love they deserve on these vehicle-dominated streets. Navarro created Las Bicicletas in July—the art is meant to encourage people to ride more, get outside, and enjoy art in everyday life. There are 122 bikes installed throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, and they'll be around until September. This Saturday, you can even go on a bike tour that passes by all the bike sculptures, because biking to see bike art is not meta at all. Seriously though, an artist-guided cycling tour where you can roll with other bike-lovers—without the risk of getting a biking demerit during this high-ticketing stint—sounds like a good idea to us. All you have to do is show up at Bartel Pritchard Square in Prospect Park at 11am ready to ride.
