You can now do some holiday (window) shopping with Google Maps

If New York is famous for anything around Christmas time, it's our ornate holiday window displays. And half the fun of holiday shopping is seeing these lavish sceneries while hunting for gifts. However, the cold plus the crowds of crazy shoppers (a whole lot of us) make this festive setting slightly less enjoyable. Cue Google Maps to the rescue!

As of today, you can use Google Maps Business View to witness the decked out windows in the comfort of your own home. Just grab your virtual one-horse open sleigh (A.K.A the digital screen of your choice) and begin your tour with Saks Fifth Avenue’s Once Upon a Time in NYC, where you can watch Cinderella and her Prince be all mushy around her carriage. Cruise by Macy’s Miracle on 34th St to watch Santa and his elves hard at work. Then, say “sayonara 2014” with Bloomingdale’s New Year’s Eve party for the grand finale.

We think these virtual tours are pretty cool, but don't use this as an excuse to online shop. We know of a few places you can score last minute gifts, minuses the masses.
