Julavits’s The Vanishers, about a young psychic recovering from a former mentor's attack, boasts the author's easy lyricism, a wonderfully unreliable narrator and a healthy dose of black humor. Kunzru's latest, Gods Without Men, continues to deal with globalization and identity, as unlikely conspirators converge on a small town after a child's disappearance.
