Well known as a great chronicler of life and the indelible characters of Brooklyn, Auster returned to the sort of unconventional memoir that got him noticed in the early ’80s (e.g., The Invention of Solitude) with last year's Winter Journal. Whereas that book told the history of his body, his latest volume, Report from the Interior, deals with his internal development from various perspectives.
