Whereas Meyer's lauded 2009 debut, American Rust, surveyed the violence of American life in a postindustrial age, his latest title, The Son, looks back to the 19th and 20th centuries. The dark, epic tale revolves around generations of Texans who experience the cultural displacement inherent in frontier life.
