Anna Netrebko has taken on Verdi's Lady Macbeth before (at the Bavarian State Opera). She's even recorded excerpts of the work (for Deutsche Grammophon). But she has yet to sing the role in the big barn—until now, in a move that is sure to be much discussed. Serbian baritone Željko Lucic (a Verdi specialist, at the Met) takes the title role, while bass icon René Pape helps make the cast all the starrier. Principal conductor Fabio Luisi will be in the pit.
