Postminimalist composer John Adams adds to his impressive season in New York with the world premiere of Scheherazade.2, a "dramatic symphony for violin and orchestra," written with violinist Leila Josefowicz in mind. (Forget the slightly awkward title, and recall that this soloist has a thrilling version of Adams's Violin Concerto in her repertoire.) Alan Gilbert conducts the killer program, which also includes Stravinsky's Petrushka. This morning's open rehearsal is a strong value, at $20. The program repeats on Mar 27 and 28.
