Sure, Dutch DJ superstars are a dime a dozen, but two decades ago—when the Feddes and Ferrys and Sanders and Armins of the world were still singing “Boer, Wat Zeg Je Van Mijn Kippen” (that would be the children’s-song classic “Farmer, How About My Chickens”)—Holland’s contributions to the dance-music world were slightly more underground in nature. While the hard techno of Saskia Slegers’s Djax Records may have hit clubland first, it was Clone, the record shop and label founded in 1993 by Serge, that arguably put the Netherlands on the nightlife map, releasing top-tier Detroit techno, Chicago house, Italodisco, electro and plenty more. There’s been a few bumps along the way, but Clone is still going strong, and on Friday, May 18, Serge (along with labelmate Dexter) will be making a return trip to the Bunker to ply his trade. Until then, enjoy this mix—recorded live at what might be Amsterdam’s best club, Trouw—of housed-up rhythms, with a fitting emphasis on old-school vibes.

The Bunker: Clone Records Showcase + Prosumer + Fred P is at Public Assembly on Friday, May 18
