Eddie C
It's easy to argue that there are far too many people doing dance-music reedits nowadays, and that it's to the point where most of these releases are more like flash-mob exercises in audio wankery than participants in a discipline that requires anything like curiosity and creativity. But we won't be the ones making that argument—at least, not as long as people such as Eddie C are around. Like Tiger & Woods, Mark E and a handful of others, the Canadian producer is a master at taking elements of other people's music and making them his own. But unlike some, his work, on labels like Whiskey Disco, Endless Flight and Home Taping Is Killing Music, captures (and even magnifies) all the pathos and joy of the disco, funk and soul cuts that make up his raw material. He's playing at the shindig at Santos Party House on Saturday, August 20, but until then, here's an utterly groovy Eddie C mix—made up largely of his own unreleased tunes—to whet your appetite.
