An era has ended: After 12 years, Glasgow's JD Twitch and Jonnie Wilkes have pulled the plug on their aurally anarchic weekly residency at Optimo. So think of their latest mix as a farewell letter from the boys, though the duo isn't dying or anything (they still have plans to spin together). More focused and obviously dance-floor-friendly than many Optimo sets—what, no Black Dice? No Kate Bush?—the selections are nonetheless wide-ranging,with brilliant, jacking cuts from boundary-pushing synth-pop pioneer Fad Gadget, the dub-tech titans of Basic Channel and original Coconut (as in Kid Creole and the...) Roni Griffith, cooing away on the crazy-beautiful Hi-NRG cut "Spys." If all goodbyes could be this much fun, parting wouldn't be such sweet sorrow; it would simply be a sweet-ass trip.
