Fixed's JDH and Dave P.

“Mighty oaks from little acorns grow,” some know-it-all once opined back in days of yore. But the self-appointed arboreal expert had it wrong; some oaks start out mighty, and then grow into some kind of monstrous behemoth, devouring all who dare remark upon the fact that it makes all these girly little acorns every year. The Fixed party hasn’t quite reached that stage yet—but from its not-so-humble 2004 beginnings in the basement of the Tribeca Grand Hotel (early visitors included Ewan Pearson and the Soulwax boys), the shindig quickly asserted itself as one of the city’s go-to galas for left-of-center electro, house and techno. Now it’s a half decade later and head Fixed honchos JDH and Dave P. are at the top of their game, rocking dance floors in Brooklyn and Manhattan with major-league guests along the lines of house combo 2020 Soundsystem, cosmic-disco king Lindstrm and techno impresario Michael Mayer. For Fixed’s fifth-anniversary bash, the residents have secured the services of some little outfit called Basement Jaxx—but really, it’s JDH and Dave P. themselves that make this party what it is. For a little taste of what Fixed is all about, behold this fab mix, full of chunky beats from the likes of Matias Aguayo, Neurotic Drum Band and Simian Mobile Disco.
