Miss Honey Dijon drops a sweet mix of jacking house rhythms.

This CD was mixed by NYC scene presence Miss Honey Dijon; that's her on the cover, striking her best Ohio Players pose. Like that iconic '70s band, Dijon's a pro at laying down the funk—but this is funk of a different nature, one that has its roots in the four-to-the-floor rhythms of the DJ's hometown of Chicago. The jacking beats included here are stripped down, but are by no means minimal—instead, this is big, big house music that's primed for action. Driving drum loops, rubbery bass, the occasional vocal sample and a few blips and bleeps—there's not much variation, but the ability to take these spare elements and construct a viable set out of them is an art form.
