Summer in New York: Clubs and nightlife events and parties

The Venerable Plant label, which has lately released a slew of old-school, disco-tinged house EPs, joins forces with the party-loving gang at Let's Play House for a night of drinking and dancing. Those activities will be aided and abetted by the L.I.E.S. label's Ron Morelli; Whatever/Whatever's Justin Strauss and Bryan Mette; Runaway's Marcos Cabral; All Dom Wrong (Plant boss Dominique Keegan); Kaviar Disco Club's Beto Cravioto; and MNDR, who will regale the crowd with a live set of bouncy synth material. Made Event's Electric Zoo has, in just four years, become one of the country's leading electronic-dance-music hoedowns. This year's edition of the megafest once again services both the mainstream and—to a lesser extent—the underground. Today's kickoff lineup has the likes of David Guetta, Above and Beyond, Laidback Luke, Hardwell, Nicky Romero and Ferry Corsten representing the former, and Luciano, Argy, Reboot, Frivolous, Mendo and Robert Dietz (all playing at the Cadenza label's Vagabundos tent) holding it down for the latter. Doc Wasabassco and his crew celebrate Labor Day in this show that honors a near-universal sentiment. Evelyn Vinyl, Gal Friday, Madame Rosebud, Mala Morrigan, Medianoche, Nasty Canasta, Natasha King, Penny Wren and Tansy will work their hearts out on the Bell House stage. We've always backed the proletariat, but this is the kind of labor movement we can really get behind.

The Nervous label's disco-kissed imprint, Nurvous, sets up shop at Sullivan Room for a date with Tone of Arc (otherwise known as Dead Seal or, to his folks, Derrick Boyd), who creates subdued, pop-informed house that manages to be both smooth and bumping. Walker & Royce have been a roll lately: Not only are they firmly ensconced on Nurvous, but they recently released a great EP on the Crosstown Rebels label. Soul 2 Seoul is the team of local tough guys Turtle Bugg and Ctrl.

The gals of Storybook Burlesque take on Greek myths—not the one about austerity saving the economy, but the ones about Apollo, Athena, Zeus, the Titans, the Sirens… You know the deal. The Pandora's box of burlesque babes includes Victoria Privates, Rosey La Rouge, BB Heart, BooBess, Boo Boo Darlin’, Cheeky Lane, Lefty Lucy, Jenny C’est Quoi, Magdalena Fox, and Bitty Bamboo.

It's Saturday—time for another day of superior DJs and performers in MoMA PS1's courtyard. Today's music will be fabulous, with the Border Community label's James Holden jetting in from London to play his ethereal, almost diaphanous version of techno. (Even if he pumps it up a bit for Warm Up's massive crowd, it should still be amazing.) Germany's Kassem Mosse purveys a pleasingly deep sound that slides along the house-techno-dubstep. London's talented Om Unit and Texan synth duo Silent Diane handle the early sets.

The festival continues with another massive (and varied) assemblage of electronic-dance-music elder statesmen and young guns banging out their booming beats. Axwell, Sasha, Above & Beyond, Sander Van Doorn, Paco Osuna, Benny Benassi, Maya Jane Coles, Frank & Tony, Koze, Claude VonStroke and Steve Aoki are all playing—and that's just a small sampling of what's in store. Gary Beeber—the filmmaker behind the documentary Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque—produces this monthly revue, which features political satire, comedy, performance art, dance and general onstage allure. This month's edition sees yet another top lineup taking the stage: Headliner Angie Pontani and special guest Dirty Martini will be joined by Peekaboo Pointe, Bettina May, Nasty Canasta, Albert Cadabra, Medianoche and the hula-hoop-crazy Pinkie Special. Dangrrr Doll is the night's stage kitten, and the World Famous *BOB* serves as the soiree's charming host.

It's over already? Yes—this is the final installment of Electric Zoo's three-day run. But there are still a ton of major-league dance-music artists and DJs to enjoy: Tiësto, Knife Party, Bloody Beetroots, Excision, Andy C, Diplo, Zeds Dead, Marco Corola, Apparat, Dixon, Mt Eden, the tag-teaming trio of Martin Buttrich, Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann (do not miss them), and many, many others. Oh, and some guy named Skrillex is going to be there as well.

Josh Wood Productions takes control of Cielo for a glitterball special (and Cielo does boast quite a glitterball), as the disco daddies of Horse Meat Disco gallop all the way from the South London headquarters of the Eagle for a Labor Day weekend prance around the dance floor.
