These free Sunday-afternoon parties return for a second year to the swanky Gansevoort Park Avenue NYC hotel, making the usually exclusive rooftop available to the (doorman-approved) public. This pop-up Pacha-in-the-sky features a rotating cast of house and trance DJs, including Danish prog-house practitioner Morten Breum (Sun 22) and Russian dance-music duo Hard Rock Sofa (Sun 29). The door to the Thompson Hotel’s third-floor deck is tougher to crack than the New York Times crossword. But drop the wingding’s name at the door on a Tuesday and you can splash around at this pansexual soiree. DJ Miss Guy, a downtown nightlife fixture you might recognize from the band Toilet Bšys or the legendary ’90s Squeezebox party at Don Hill’s, spins a soundtrack of Motown, girl groups, rock and disco. Hudson Terrace hands over its sound system to the GBH crew for this roof-deck shindig overlooking the river. The diverse lineups plumb all corners of the disco, electro and house worlds; this month, Alan Braxe (one third of Stardust, the collab behind megahit “Music Sounds Better with You”) rolled through. Party high above the Meatpacking District at Jules Kim and Katie Longmyer’s afternoon fete, spread over the Standard Hotel’s rooftop and penthouse bar, Le Bain. Each week, top local spinners crank out disco and electronic dance music until sunset—this summer’s highlights have included underground rap artist Pase Rock.
