Doug "Emancipator" Appling has toured with Lorin"Bassnectar" Ashton, but Appling's sound is far gentler than the glow-stick–friendly, woofer-ripping tunes that Ashton's known for. Instead, his music is elegiac and often quite beautiful, in an electro-organic, trip-hoppy sort of way. (He even tours with an electric-violin player.) He's celebrating the release of a new album, Dusk to Dawn, on Loci Records. San Francisco's Random Rab supplies the opening set.
