Along with Carl Craig, Jeff Mills, Octave One, Underground Resistance, Richie Hawtin and their comrades, Stacey Pullen is a respected member of Detroit’s second wave of techno producers (the holy trinity of Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson being the main men of the first wave). We’ve had the pleasure of hearing Pullen spin many times, and he’s a hell of a DJ, mixing styles and tempos as adroitly as anyone on the scene. But let’s not forget that the veteran, who’s spinning at Verboten’s Sullivan Room bash on Saturday, May 18, is a wicked producer, too. He’s just released the driving, dubby Any Which Way EP, complete with a pair of his own chunky remixes and gorgeously deep versions from Martin Buttrich, on his own Blackflag Recordings—and here it is, for your streaming pleasure.
Verboten: Stacey Pullen + Agoria + Nathan Barato is at Sullivan Room Saturday, May 18.
