Independence Day—it seems but a distant memory, doesn’t it? You can barely recall those five hot dogs and 10 PBRs you downed in a drunken fit of patriotic revelry—but you’d probably have a bit more retention of your July 4th activities if you had gone to the retro-themed Liberty Belle Extravaganza. This year’s edition was a sprawling affair, kicking off in the afternoon as part of Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing series, then moving to two separate rooftops, on the Lower East Side’s DL and midtown’s Empire Hotel. Adding to the appeal: music from the Hot Sardines, the Red Hook Ramblers and Dandy Wellington and his band, among others; a bevy of burlesquers, including Hazel Honeysuckle, Medianoche, Tansy, the Maine Attraction, Cheekie Lane, Little Motown and Dangrrr Doll; and, of course, plenty of drinking and dancing.
