Launched by nonprofit community arts organization BRIC to revitalize Prospect Park, Brooklyn's premier outdoor performance series spans music, dance, film and spoken word. A $3 donation is requested, and there are a few ticketed benefit shows, including Wilco, Sigur Ros, M. Ward, Hot Chip and Dirty Projectors. When it’s not hosting first-rate indie-rock acts, the Prospect Park Bandshell turns into the borough’s biggest movie theater. Pull up a blanket to watch flicks including Saturday Night Fever (July 14) and the Franco Zeffirelli adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (Aug 2). Both come with perks: a disco-inspired yoga class and a set by heavy-metal Bee Gees tribute band Tragedy at the former, and singer Helga Davis crooning a program of romantic standards at the latter. Chime in with Kermit & Co. at the park’s sing-along screening of The Muppet Movie on July 28. Modern-dance fans shouldn’t miss Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s performance on Aug 9, while locavores will be pleased to find noshes and beer from the Farm on Adderley, frozen treats from Ample Hills Creamery, and Etsy’s booth featuring crafts by neighborhood artisans.
