Sarah Jessica Parker, who is shaping herself up to be New York City's unofficial cultural ambassador for ballet—no complaints here—takes over as a radio host for WNYC's The Leonard Lopate Show on April 15 and 16. She's handpicked her guests; on Wednesday, she'll devote half of the program, airing from noon to 2pm, to ballet, chatting up Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov about the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet, and Ashley Bouder and Sara Mearns of New York City Ballet.
Parker, a board member at NYCB and a former dancer herself, is devoted to the art form: It's recently been announced that city.ballet., her AOL series about NYCB has been picked up for another season. Hopefully it will be improved; the first was full of clichéd camerawork—a foot here, an arm there—and rushed interviews. Lopate will likely suffer from a similar hurriedness. (There are two other guests, writer Anthony Marra and MoMA director Glenn Lowry, booked on Wednesday's show.) We'll take what we can get and move on: How can we make Parker fall in love with modern dance?
