Argo Tea Cafe
More than 30 loose-leaf teas, along with a small food menu featuring items like Earl Grey--poached chicken, are offered at this tiny caf. For those who need a stronger jolt of caffeine, Fair Trade coffee is also available. 949 Broadway between 22nd and 23rd Sts (646-755-7262)
Balaboosta
Chef-owner Einat Admony, who is also an owner of Tam in the West Village, will turn out healthy foods like smoked eggplant with tahini and an herb salad at this Mediterranean eatery. In addition to the lineup of European, Israeli and Lebanese wines, Balaboosta will feature nonalcoholic specialty drinks. 214 Mulberry St between Prince and Spring Sts (no phone yet)
Nero Doro
Exposed-brick walls and overstuffed chairs lend a cozy vibe to this Italian caf and wine bar in Clinton Hill. Piadina—flatbreads prepared with savory (prosciutto) or sweet (Nutella) toppings—are the house speciality, but Italian espresso and pastries from Ceci-Cela should attract a laptop crowd during the day. 395 Classon Ave between Clifton Pl and Greene Ave, Clinton Hill, Brooklyn (718-484-8822)
No. 7 Sub
The latest berhip food-and-drink concession to come out of the Ace Hotel is this grab-and-go sandwich shop from the owners of Fort Greene’s No. 7. The menu, from chef Tyler Kord (who—factoid alert!—once worked at a Subway) includes subs like the “roast kohlrabi,” made with fresh mozzarella, pesto and fried lemon in addition to the namesake vegetable. 1188 Broadway between 28th and 29th Sts (212-532-1680)
1 or 8
The sprawling menu at this all-white Japanese joint features an extensive list of appetizers like monkfish liver with grilled peach, composed entres and a full lineup of sushi executed by ex--Jewel Bako chef Kazuo Yoshida. 66 South 2nd St between Kent and Wythe Aves, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-384-2152)
Tamba Indian Grill & Bar
Curry Hill gets another Indian joint with this 50-seat eatery, named for the Indian word for copper (a focal point of the decor). Expect classic Indian eats, including vegetarian fare. 103 Lexington between 26th and 27th Sts (212-481-9100)
Totonno’s
A fire felled Totonno’s last year, but the famous, ancient Coney Island pizzeria is finally back on its feet. The space has been renewed, but the menu remains the same: large or small pies (no slices) with very few toppings. The signature white pizza—fresh mozzarella, pecorino romano, garlic and olive oil—is still the way to go. 1524 Neptune Ave between 15th and 16th Sts, Coney Island, Brooklyn (718-372-8606)
Ovest Pizzoteca
East Village pizzeria Luzzo’s expands to Chelsea with this outpost, located in a former auto-body shop. The pies—along with 21 varieties of panini—are cooked in a wood-and-gas oven. Grab a spot at the eight-seat bar, where you can choose among 13 wines by the glass, 40 by the bottle and four Italian beers. 513 W 27th St between Tenth and Eleventh Aves (212-967-4392)
Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream
It seems the latest trend in mobile foods is to go brick-and-mortar: First, DessertTruck moved to an LES storefront last month, and now this ice cream shop on wheels unveils its first nonrolling location, in Greenpoint. In addition to its full range of ice cream flavors, like pistachio and Earl Grey tea, the 10-seat caf will serve Intelligentsia coffee (espresso and drip), and a rotating selection of pastries, including scones and a hazelnut--brown-butter cake. 632 Manhattan Ave between Bedford and Nassau Aves, Greenpoint, Brooklyn (718-701-1630)
