Description
Euripides’ tragedy is hyperlinked to the modern world in Charles Mee’s dynamic, wide-rangingly intelligent look at honor and sacrifice in military culture, the exceptional first offering of the Signature’s new season. Tom Nelis plays Agamemnon as a rueful white-shoe commander, the astonishing Kate Mulgrew is his vengeful power wife, Clytemnestra, and the winsome and affecting Louisa Krause is their party-girl daughter. Mee’s eloquent writing and Tina Landau’s fleet production, which includes several well-conceived musical interludes, give us a fresh and disturbing vision of war and what it spoils.—AF
