Festival de las Flores at Queens Botanical Garden

The first of two Festival de las Flores parades took place at the Queens Botanical Garden over the weekend, featuring a procession of floats, floral displays, dancers and musicians. The Festival of Flowers is a traditional Colombian rite of summer, and artisans were flown over from South America to assemble the impressive bouquets. The second parade takes place August 25 in Manhattan (meet at 111th St at Corona Park), and will include an arts fair, folk dance and a whole lotta blooms. If you can't make it, you can watch the masters at work from August 20 through 24 at the QBG's crabapple orchard.
