Inner Voices: Solo Musicals
Description
This trio of one-person musicals ranges from the glorious to the god-awful, making for a manic evening. Ellen Fitzhugh and Michael John LaChiusa’s Tres Niñas is a beautifully crafted portrait of a flawed woman (a heartbreakingly raw Victoria Clark) who recalls interactions with Mexican immigrants. But Laura Harrington and Jenny Giering’s Alice Unwrapped—about a wisecracking teen with an MIA soldier father—reeks of cheap sentiment; and although Michele Lowe and Scott Davenport Richards’s A Thousand Words Come to Mind is an intriguing intellectual exercise, it is not wholly satisfying. The same could be said for this production.—Raven Snook
