See Thu 17, Black Diamond Heavies, for Endless Boogie. We’ve long since buried our initial suspicion regarding Andrew W.K. (i.e., that he was just another Vice-magazine-approved hipster fad). We’re now pretty much sold on the idea that he is indeed some sort of visionary, postmodern multimedia guru. Contradictions abound: He maintains ties with the shadowy underground noise scene, yet continues to purvey an almost willfully dumb brand of superpsyched party rock. That’s only part of the story, though; recently he’s been getting into philosophical lecturing, drumming with Boredoms, producing the new Sightings record and hosting a self-help TV show. Whatever you want to say about him, the dude is resolutely unboring and, in that vein, he does a solo piano show tonight.
