See also “One-man bands,” page 24. Local outfit Tall Firs plays moody, highly textural rock songs marked by spidery guitar interplay that often sounds improvised. New drummer Ryan Sawyer lends tactile finesse to the trio’s latest Ecstatic Peace disc, Too Old to Die Young. Recent live appearances by Brooklyn’s Telepathe have been shaky, but the band’s intriguing new Web demos—which evoke an ethereal-psych outfit taking on clubby R&B—give us hope.
