Nicole Atkins and the Sea + Gold Streets + Botanica
Description
Nicole Atkins’s dark, reverb-drenched torch songs don’t sound like anyone else’s, mainly because they’re permeated by the Jersey songsmith’s fascination with creepiness. Her debut, Neptune City, has several songs that resemble dream-pop sides from the early ’60s, with psychedelic bells and old-fashioned string arrangements. The ambitious local indie-rock trio Gold Streets offers driving rhythms, dreamy guitars and diverse coed vocals. Botanica plays the sort of noirish, swinging-yet-damaged rock that put the Lower East Side on the map in the mid-’80s.
