Description
The Sword wallops, shreds and wails in a worthy pantomime of classic-metal tropes. But it’s hard for us to see why the world needs another record as stone-facedly conventional as the recent Gods of Earth, no matter how undeniably boss the medium may be. It’s hard to say which aspect of Torche has more impact: its bottom-heavy stoner-metal riff slabs or its soulful, almost gospelish vocal crooning. Either way, you—the discerning rock fan—will have no choice but to proclaim the righteousness of this Florida foursome, touring behind the new Meanderthal. Veteran Philly trio Stinking Lizaveta continues to churn out the incendiary instrumental prog-metal its longtime fans have come to adore.
