The Time Out New York internship program provides interns with real world experience and will prepare you for a career in several areas of the publishing industry. Our aim is to provide current students, college graduates and candidates looking to get into the publishing industry with an opportunity to apply coursework learned or taught in the classroom. As an intern, you will be involved in the daily process for each department, geared towards weekly publication. You are exposed to a variety of duties, hands-on experience and increased knowledge of the industry.
TONY fosters an environment conducive to growth and development and as such, some interns eventually assume full-time, part-time and freelance positions at the publication on account of stellar performance during their internship.
Our internships require a 2-3 day per week commitment, credit or non-credit. TONY looks for candidates with a strong commitment to a career in publishing through previous internship experiences, area of study, or extra-curricular involvements. TONY also thrives on intelligence, responsibility and maturity in all personnel and we expect the same of our interns.

Circulation (especially for a magazine like Time Out New York) is an eclectic mix of marketing and business, with interesting things to learn along the way. This position is ideal for anyone with a strong interest in fashion and who is familiar with fashion labels and shops in New York City. Applicants should be interested in the world of fashion as well as the magazine publishing industry. Responsibilities will include market research and managing contacts, press materials and look books, as well as calling in and returning items featured in Time Out New York. We will hire a car service for you on a weekly basis to conduct the entire return process. You will pack the items, organize where each package is going, and make the returns throughout Manhattan via car. Candidates will receive occasional opportunities to pitch ideas and write.

Versatility is precisely what we're looking for in our intern candidates. Our goal is to find an individual who has a strong interest in magazine journalism and also enjoys the culinary/dining adventures of NYC. Candidates must be available to work two or three days a week.
Responsibilities include fact-checking our online restaurant guide as well as the listings in our weekly publication. Candidates must be able to communicate with restaurant industry contacts with confidence and a professional attitude.
Clearly, this fast paced, need-to-meet-the-deadline environment is not suitable for an individual who enjoys down-time. Candidates must be self-motivated, organized and able to dive into projects with confidence.

We’re open to any J-schoolers or English majors in the NYC area who are available at least 15 hours a week. Recent grads are okay too. Here’s what we want: sharp reporters, writers who can work independently, people who aren’t afraid to make phone calls, people who aren’t afraid to cold-approach strangers on the street, people who are plugged into NYC culture and street life, people who love Time Out and read it regularly, and people who REALLY want clips. Candidates will get hands-on experience publishing to the Web with this internship. You'll assist the Web Producer and Associate in converting content from the magazine for the website, updating our events database and assisting in special online projects. We work on Macs, so familiarity with Mac OSX is helpful, as is a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, PhotoShop, InDesign, BBEdit and Filemaker. The Online Advertising/Marketing Intern performs a variety of online marketing tasks. He/she will implement online marketing projects with responsibilities that include coordination of street team efforts for “TONY Free Flix” screening program. Candidate must have interest in online/interactive advertising and marketing, computer savvy (design knowledge a plus) and fluid in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on Excel.
Candidate works with sales and traffic staff to help coordinate campaign management to ensure client satisfaction and campaign completion. He/she will assist in research for the development of potential media plans.
