Sure, it’s a looong movie about an obscure Russian icon painter that spends most of its ending on a boy trying to cast a giant bell, but so what? Tarkovsky’s widescreen epic is ravishing, ambitious and jaw-droppingly beautiful. Did we happen to mention it’s also essential viewing?
