Catalan chef Ferran Adri stunned the international food community when he announced earlier this year that he'd close his groundbreaking restaurant, El Bulli, at the end of July. Gereon Wetzel's documentary could have been a timely homage to Adri's three-Michelin-star temple. Instead, this banal behind-the-scenes look at the avant-garde toque and his cerebral kitchen lieutenants reveals precious little insight into the mind of a celebrated culinary genius who's pushed the boundaries of haute cuisine for more than two decades. It's a sluggish portrait that neither captures nor replicates the dazzle, pacing and polish of an El Bulli meal. Check, please.
