Brooks’s finest moment as a writer, director and serious threat to Woody Allen’s lovable neuroticism has him playing a Hollywood editor, frustrated in matters of work (he’s cutting an absurd sci-fi saga starring George Kennedy) and love. His whining is magnificent.
