Hitchcock’s first American picture is also the only one that received an Oscar for Best Picture, although he was robbed of the Best Director statuette. Incredibly, Judith Anderson, in a Machiavellian supporting role, manages to steal the picture from stars Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.
