Nastassja Kinski excels as the title character in this evocative adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles; it won several minor Oscars (Cinematography, Art Direction, etc.) and was shot in anamorphic widescreen, so is ideally seen on the big screen.
