Director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin impressively chart the rise of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) from outcast Harvard nerd to billionaire entrepreneur. Dialogue is spoken at the rat-a-tat-tat velocity of a screwball comedy. Other elements, like the spectacular drone of a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, give the proceedings a horror-film patina. (Justin Timberlake, as smooth-talking Napster cofounder Sean Parker, is even lit to look like a Faustian devil.) The scariest thing onscreen, though, is Eisenberg, whose slumped-over posture and cool egotism perfectly sum up the frighteningly poker-faced detachment of Generation Tech.—Keith Uhlich
