Fans of the book claim it’s been bastardized beyond recognition, and it’s true that the movie never seems to find its footing. Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance as the title character’s brother, however, is one of the few Hollywood star turns involving a mentally challenged character that doesn’t make you want to flee the theater.
