The best free food deals at NYC bars
Nosh on complimentary grub every day of the week at these watering holes
Wed Oct 15 2014
Free pizza with a pint is an ideal match and, much like beer-and-shot combos, it's made on nearly every menu in Gotham. But these boozy dens are one-upping typical dive bar deals with great grub that also happens to be on the house. From complimentary bagels and schmear to a gratis buffet of mussels, these are the daily specials you need to know about.
Ask for any drink at this no-frills watering hole at any time before last call and you're entitled to a freshly made personal pizza. But you already know this, thanks to numerous 3:30am drunken meals, don't you? Here's a new trick: Save even more dough by opting for a Yuengling or Bud Light, the cheapest brews on tap ($4).
- 600 Metropolitan Ave, (between Leonard and Lorimer Sts)
Fill up on flautas, chimichangas and chicken wings during this NYU hang's free buffet every day from 5–7pm. Even if you miss the feast, nightly specials will keep your wallet happy, especially Thursday’s all-night happy hour, when house tequila cocktails are half off.
- 86 University Pl, (between 11th and 12th Sts), 10003
Buy any drink on the menu at this kid sister to Williamsburg's Alligator Lounge and get a free personal cheese pizza. If you feel like splurging, toppings like pepperoni and sausage are just $1 each. The best part? You can get free lunch and dinner—the special runs every day from noon–4am.
- 325 E 14th St, (between First and Second Aves)
Stuff yourself silly with free pizza at this laid-back joint, every day at 6pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, shake off your hangover with complimentary coffee and bagels at noon.
- 1025 Manhattan Ave, (between Freeman and Green Sts), 11222
Head to this Irish pub to down a few pints, then soak up the booze with free shepard's pie, pasta or chicken wings from 5–7pm. With drafts ranging from Guiness to Goose Island IPA to Chimay, there’s a glass for every hops head.
- 28 Cliff St, (between Fulton and John Sts), 10038
At 5pm, bartenders at this friendly suds mecca set out 30 pounds of hot wings. To partake in the feasting, simply purchase a brew (normally $5.50–$8), which is a buck off during happy hour (4–8pm).
- 228 Atlantic Ave, (between Brooklyn Bridge Blvd and Court St)
- Critics choice
On hump days at 6pm, this haven for serious brewheads offers an assortment of cheeses (two pounds' worth) from nearby Murray's Cheese, as well as baguettes from Tom Cat Bakery. Ask the barkeep which draft will best complement your snack.
- 281 Bleecker St, (at Jones St)
Wednesdays and Sundays
Gorge on free bagels on Sundays and free hot dogs on Wednesdays, when you'll also be able to glug drafts like Ommegang Witte and Smuttynose Finest Kind and well drinks for $1 off. Or, opt for a harder-to-find brew from the 16-bottle list including Orval Trappist Ale from Belgium and the whopping 13 ABV Labrynth Imperial Stout from Uinta Brewing.
- 48 Spring St, (between Lafayette and Mulberry Sts), 10012
Unwind at the end of the work week and graze on a buffet of gratis mussels, wings and boneless buffalo tenders from 5–7pm. Don’t come here for cheap big-name beers—the bar doesn’t carry Bud, Coors or Miller. Instead, the tap list includes ales made in-house and by microbrewers like Long Trail, Southern Tier and Green Flash, so you can wet your whistle well as you mow down.
- 63 Grand St, (between Kent and Wythe Aves), 11211
Fridays and Sundays
At this sports haven, get a weekend bender started with free Nicholetta pizza (fennel sausage, prosciutto cotto) and plenty of suds like 21st Amendment's Brew Free or Die IPA and Peekskill Simple Sour on Friday nights at 8pm. Then cure your hangover with the free bagel bar (sesame, everything) on Sundays at noon.
- 43 E 7th St, (between Second and Third Aves), 10003
